Exodus 12:1-13
The children of Israel had been in bondage to Egypt for 400 years. God had promised to give them their own land for a possession. He had sent Moses to bring them out of bondage. Because of the hardness of Pharaoh’s heart, God was sending plagues on Egypt. He had hardened his heart at all the other plagues so God brought the tenth and worst plague.
God gave specific instructions to the Israelites to avoid the plague. The blood of the lamb could not merely be poured out or spilled. It had to be applied to the door posts. God said to remember this day, the Passover, when because of the lamb they were saved from judgement.
