What Happens When We Let Go?

Exodus 2:1-9

Moses’ mother undoubtedly fell in love instantly with him. The Bible says that when she saw him, she saw that he was a goodly child, but she knew that she could not keep him because Pharaoh had put out an order that the midwives kill every child that was born male. The midwives refused to do that so Pharaoh charged all the people to cast the male babies into the water when they saw them. So Moses’ mother knew that he could not be raised where they were. She fought it and held on as long as she could.

When she realized she couldn’t hold on to him any longer, she made an ark (a little boat) and placed the love of her life in it – the most precious thing in her life. Can you imagine laying the most precious thing in your life in a boat like that?

By doing this, she was putting faith that God would take care of it. By her actions, she was saying, “I’ve carried it as far as I can.” As she carried the ark to the edge of the river bank and put it in the bullrush, she put it in the hands of a sovereign God… and she let go.
