The Ghost of Uriah

Steve Moore preaching.

2 Samuel 11:1

David was a man who was a warrior and was good at what he did. He started out against Goliath. He refused Saul’s armor and chose to use the armor he knew was tried and true. David went on to lead Israel in many battles, being victorious time after time.

Just before our text, the Ammonites had launched a war against Israel. Being soundly defeated, the Ammonite forces fled behind the walls of their capital, Rabbah. David’s army had broken off the attack and returned home. David held out hope that the Ammonites would reconsider the peace treaty between the two nations. This hope was crushed when the Syrian coalition remobilized and marched against David. Now, having defeated the Syrians and waiting until the winter months had passed, David relaunches his attacks agains the Ammonites.

Verse 1
Why was a king that knew so much about battle sitting at home in his pajamas? Why was he on the roof of his palace building when he should have been marching with his men?

Verse 2
It all began with a look. Just like with Adam & Eve, it all began with a look. The devil’s strategy in the garden of Eden was simply to get Eve by herself, pitch the temptation into her head, get her engaged in an intellectual discussion regarding whether or not it was right to do something God said was wrong, plant a doubt in her mind, follow it up with a denial, and finish it up with a dilusion.
