2 Kings 6:1-7

Elisha had been Elijah’s student. When Elijah was taken away to Heaven in a chariot and horses of fire, Elisha became God’s chosen successor to Elijah. Elisha’s prophetic ministry lasted about 50 years. The sons of the prophets are the students of a school for young preachers that are learning under Elisha.

As we look at the scripture, I want to remind you of a saying I’ve heard, “You shouldn’t go through life with catcher’s mitts on both hands. You should be able to throw something back.” Many times we develop the attitude of “what can God do for me” instead of “what can I do for God?”

Vs 1
The sons of the prophets came to Elisha and told him that the place was no longer big enough.

Vs 2-3
Remember in chapter 5, Elisha had sent Namaan to the Jordan River to be healed. No doubt the people saw the miracle that had happened in Namaan’s life and decided to follow Elisha.

The sons came and requested to go to the Jordan to make a new school, and they asked Elisha to go too.
