Song of Solomon 5:2-16
The word “honeymoon” is defined as the first month (moon) of marriage. It is a time when everything is sweet. It’s a time when no one is noticing flaws and imperfections. If you’re honest, you will remember when you first started a relationship, your spouse didn’t get on your nerves nearly as easily. You used to open doors for your wife, but now you rarely do.
In our text, we find Solomon and his wife, a Shulamite, in the post-honeymoon stage of their marriage. All through this book until now, the bridegroom has been referring to this woman as the bride. Here, he doesn’t use that term. It may be that the new has worn off their relationship. After all, when the chapter opens, we find the bride asleep and the bridegroom outside her chamber trying to get in.
