Mark 10:46-52
Jesus had been to Jericho. In Jesus’ day, Jericho was one of the most important cities in Palestine. One of the world’s main commercial roads ran right through the city. Jericho was only about seventeen miles from Jerusalem. It was the passover season, which means thousands of people were making their way to Jerusalem.
A multitude of people were passing by, but out of the multitude, we see blind Bartimaeus begging. He isn’t the only blind person in the story though. Someone said to Helen Keller, “What a pity you have no sight.” She replied, “Yes, but what a pity so many have sight but cannot see!” There were many in this story blinded to their own spiritual condition.
