Hebrews 2:1-4
Two young men were fishing in a boat above a low dam on the river. As they were concentrating on catching fish, they were unaware of the water moving. They kept reeling in the fish, not paying any attention to anything else. They didn’t realize they’d been drifting until they were not far from the water flowing over the dam. When they realized their situation, the current near the dam had become too powerful to keep the boat from going over. Caught by the current, the fishermen were swept over the dam to only be found days later by divers.
In Hebrews 2, we find a warning against drifting. The author is speaking to Christians. The author uses the word “neglect.” If you’re not saved, you don’t neglect – you reject. If you’re not saved, you may say, “I’m not rejecting. I just don’t want to do it today.” That’s rejecting. If you don’t get saved today, you’re saying “no” to God. If you’re not saved, you need to stop rejecting Jesus Christ and ask Him to save you.
If you have been saved, you need to know that spiritual drifting can happen to anyone – Sunday School teachers, singers, even the pastor.
