Luke 7:36-50

Four words can literally change your life.

• I’m sorry. It’s cancer.
• Yes, you are pregnant.
• You are being audited.

Jesus changes lives and did so in our text with just four words.

Simon, a Pharisee, invited Jesus to dinner. We can speculate that Simon enjoyed the company of celebrities. He had heard about Jesus and wanted to talk to Him. Simon was rude and didn’t even extend the common courtesy that most guests would get.

Common courtesy of the day would have been that as soon as Jesus entered Simon’s house, he would have:

• Greeted Jesus with a kiss
• Wash Jesus’ feet
• Anointed Jesus’ head with oil

We can gather that Simon had no intention of having a true relationship with Jesus.
