Joshua 24:15
Our text today is likely a familiar passage for most of us. Joshua had served the Lord faithfully as he walked beside Moses. He was the man God chose to lead Israel into the promised land. Joshua and Israel had battled and claimed the land that God had promised all the way back to Abraham.
Here we see that Joshua is in a conversation with the leaders of Israel. He had faithfully led Israel into the land of Canaan. Under his leadership, the people were living in this new land and getting settled into their new life of promise.
Now, Joshua, knowing he was near to death, felt compelled to address the people. He was aware of the challenges they would encounter and the temptations they would face. He challenged them to remain committed to God.
He summoned the people of Israel. He was concerned over their morality relationship with God. He told them they needed to make a choice. You see, Joshua didn’t have the right to make the choice for all of Israel, but when it came to his family, Joshua said, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
