We Should Abound With Thanksgiving

Colossians 2: 6-7, Romans 5:1-11

Do you not think it’s sad that we make such a big deal about Thanksgiving? I mean, if you’re honest, don’t you agree we’re pretty guilty of living 11 months out of the year doing “life” and then for the one month of November, we start thinking of Thanksgiving.

We may start at the first of the month on social media listing something each day that we’re thankful for, or maybe we just get more things on our minds that we’re thankful for. Maybe we even thank God when we pray more. A lot of families even have the tradition to sit around the table and list things they’re thankful for.

The spirit of thanksgiving should abound in every Christian’s life. Jesus desires for you and me to abound with thanksgiving in our earthly walk. Otherwise, why would he say, “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” (John 15:1).

If this is the desire of Jesus for us:

  • Why are so many Christians unhappy, depressed, grumpy?
  • Why do we not give thanks more often?
  • Why is it only around Thanksgiving that we have a spirit of thankfulness?
